You were the one?
There has been something, or really someone that has come up in conversation several times this week; Satan. Did you just get uncomfortable? Yeah, I did too. In fact, I didn’t even want to type it. But you see, when his name is brought up in our circles, it’s usually about how he is pestering us, agitating us, working against us, causing problems, etc. Do you tend to do that too? When something goes haywire in your world, do you tend to think Satan is at work?
Listen, I’m not here to discount that thought in any way. I mean, his objective is to kill, steal, and destroy, after all. And he’s pretty darn good at his job. But I am here to pose a question; why do we allow him so much real estate (space) in our lives?
A few months ago, I was listening to a sermon podcast. The Pastor was reading from Isaiah 16, a book and a chapter we’ve heard and read several times before. But when this Pastor emphasized a particular word, the entire meaning took new shape…
“Those who see you will stare at you
and ponder over you:
‘Is THIS the man who made the earth tremble,
who shook kingdoms…” -Isaiah 14:16 ESV
Read that again, but this time raise one eyebrow, scrunch your nose, and talk out of the side of your mouth, like you are in total disbelief at what you are seeing: Whaaaaaat? THIS is the man? Nuh-uh! No way! Get out of town! But he’s so puny! And my God is so big!
That’s right. There may be those that oppose our God, but NO ONE compares! There may be things that come against our God, but NO THING can defeat Him! And when we finally realize just how small “THAT man” is, it frees up space for the Power that lives in us to grow.
