Shawn Got the Keys
We were introduced to Shawn by Habitat for Humanity. Shawn has hundreds, if not thousands of volunteer hours with Habitat. Shawn worked in the construction industry for years until the 2007 housing crisis. He is a U.S. Navy Veteran who has been living in a tent where two creeks meet in North Sacramento.
Before meeting Shawn, we met with the Principal and Instructor at Luther Burbank High School (late winter 2015/2016). At KAVANAH, it is our hope to enlist the help of our youth bringing solutions to the needs of our community. Well, that is just what these students did! In one semester, they built two Tiny Homes, taking ownership and pride in their good work.
Next we needed to find a location to place the first home! Our idea was that a church who had the space to place one (a parking lot space or two) would be the perfect place for a Tiny Home, offering help to a person in need. Well, God brought us the person before the church, and the rest just fell right in to place! We are grateful to Habitat for Humanity for putting us in touch with Shawn. And we are grateful to True Holiness Church of God in Christ who TREASURES Shawn, and said YES!
On August 16, 2016, Shawn got the keys to his new home!
Shawn absolutely LOVES the red door! And to see the smile on his face, brings tears of joy to ours.

P.S. Shawn is already working with our landscaper, Ted!
